Justin Nelson, Arizona Chapter Chair for Backcountry Hunter's & Anglers came and spoke at our April 11 meeting. Justin is an avid hunter and fisherman who loves to spend his free time chasing down Mearn's quail with his dog when he isn't busy with work, home life, or organizing community efforts through BHA. He talked to us about BHA's mission to protect Arizona's public lands and keep them open for recreational use by members of the community.

Justin spoke about the details of BHA's specific initiatives to protect Arizona public lands through:

  • Legislative action

  • Adopt-A-Ranch Program with AZGFD at The Perrin Ranch North of Williams

  • OHV Signage program and incentive

  • Community education hunting and fishing camps

  • Foraging education and mushroom hunts

  • Fundraising efforts

  • Riparian area creation with The Army Corps of Engineers on The Gila River

  • Public land access in Southern Arizona

  • Fundraising efforts

  • Monofilament disposal bins along the Salt River
